Another Davies rides high

Will Davies, a sophomore at St. Anselm College in Manchester and NE10 Conference Player of the Year, is seeking to turn up his game. After being a key figure in leading the Hawks to the NCAA Division 2 national tournament, Will has announced he will be entering the transfer portal in hopes of landing a position with a Division 1 school.

Why do we care? Because Will Davies comes from a long line of Davies who excelled in basketball over the years at Conval, and even before that at the former Antrim High.

Bill Davies was a basketball and baseball sensation for Antrim High just before it merged with Peterborough to form Conval High in 1970. From there, various Davies have held court at CV—from John “JD” and Ted in the ‘70s, through other family members, and now Bretton, a junior on the bball team and a track standout. There have been lots of them through the years!

Which brings us to Bill’s grandson Will, who was a key factor in St. Anselm’s historic season that ended in the Round of 16 in the NCAA tournament. The Hawks finished with a 25-8 record and a 14-4 mark in the NE10, after winning the NE10 regular season and tournament championships.

Davies ranked second in the country with 7.1 assists per game, and his 235 assists are the fourth-most in a single season by a Hawk in program history. Davies was also sixth in the NE10 in total blocked shots, swatting 24. He averaged 13.7 points per game, the second-best mark on the team, and scored in double-figures in 22 straight games to end the season, totaling 28 double-digit scoring efforts out of his 33 starts.
